Get to know our trainer:
Joe joined our team in March 2019. He uses positive reinforcement training techniques. He uses a clicker, as well as treats, praise and toys to apply a reward-based and force-free training style.
Joe’s love for dogs started at a young age. He has had dogs since he was five years old. As he got older, he worked with his German Shepherds, participating in group training classes and preparing them to show in competitions.
In 2016, Joe earned his Canine Good Citizen Certification through American Kennel Club, a 10 step program focused on basic good manners for dogs. In 2018, he completed the Dog’s Playing for Life training seminar, a 3 hour program that helps improve the success of play groups in animal shelters. During this time, he was working for a local animal shelter, where he led their behavior group for 1 ½ years. To continue his education and improve his skills, he recently completed The School of Canine Science class, focusing on “Innovative, Practical, Science Based Dog Training”.
In his free time, Joe volunteers at local animal shelters. Through his work with the shelter and with Bed Bath & Biscuit, we have been able to coordinate a Board & Train Adoption Program to improve these dogs’ chances of adoption. Joe’s primary focus is the dogs that are often overlooked at the shelter, that have been there for too long – but would make a great addition to someone’s family!
